Can a toothpaste change your life? Maybe. Or at the very least, it can make your mornings a little more bearable.
My standard morning routine is usually wake up, stumble around bleary-eyed and sluggish while showering and getting dressed, then pick up coffee on my way to work so that I can be somewhat alert by the time I arrive at the office.
Then I discovered Power Toothpaste, the world’s first caffeinated toothpaste. When I heard about it, my first thought was, why hasn’t anyone thought of this before? Followed immediately by, where can I get some??
The mission behind Power Toothpaste is simple: Get people to take more interest in oral hygiene while making mornings a little more tolerable. (I was shocked to read that founder Dan Meropol developed the product after learning that half of Americans brush only once per day!) Dan recognizes that mornings are the worst part of the day for many people, and since brushing is one of the first things most people do, he wanted to create a toothpaste that delivered “a rush while you brush.” Because the caffeine in Power Toothpaste is absorbed through the gums, it goes to work even faster than coffee, which takes 30-45 minutes to be absorbed into your system.
When I first started using Power Toothpaste, it was a busy week where I was particularly sleep deprived, and was still pretty groggy even after brushing. However, when I started going to bed earlier, using the toothpaste first thing in the morning made a real difference. By the time I got out of the shower, I was feeling pretty alert. I even found I didn’t need as much coffee once I got to the office. But if you worship at the shrine of coffee, don’t worry: you can still enjoy your daily cup (or three). Because the caffeine in the toothpaste isn’t being absorbed over time like it is when you drink it, the high doesn’t last as long.
Other cool things about Power Toothpaste:
- It’s fluoride-free! Find out why that’s a good thing.
- It’s VERY minty. Be prepared for some seriously fresh breath (way better than coffee breath).
- It’s made in the U.S., in FDA-compliant facilities.
- It’s a great alternative to the big corporate toothpaste companies.
Just don’t forget you’ll need your regular toothpaste to use at night, or you may find yourself tossing and turning for a while.
